Multi-Site PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency

The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) offers a multi-site Pharmacy Practice Residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Detroit Receiving Hospital, Harper University Hospital and Sinai-Grace Hospital.  One of the benefits of a multi-site residency is the unique nature of each hospital where the resident will choose as their PGY-1 site, yet the opportunity to participate in learning experiences at all other hospitals in the system.

The DMC is committed to providing the highest quality postgraduate training in contemporary hospital pharmacy practice. The program is designed to meet the resident's individual needs and assist them in attaining their personal and professional goals. The DMC hospitals offer unique opportunities for pharmacists who desire advanced training in pharmacy practice in a variety of practice settings.  The one-year ASHP accredited program emphasizes all aspects of clinical and pharmacological management in adult and pediatric patients.

Purpose

Purpose of this ASHP- accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is to assist residents in transition from an entry-level to advanced or specialty-trained practitioners in the health-system environment and to become professionals who optimize medication use for individual patients and patient populations.  The DMC advances the professional practice level and knowledge base of the resident through a progression of experiences tailored to their individual needs.

Organization

As a multisite PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency, the DMC has a single Residency Program Director (RPD) who oversees all sites involved in PGY-1 residency.  Working directly with the RPD, each individual hospital practice site has a designated Residency Program Coordinator who oversees the day-to-day progress of each of the residents matched to their site.  The DMC offers 10-12 PGY1 positions between all sites.
